I enjoy speaking about my writing at literary events and on panels. I am often invited to programme events, which have included a panel event on Aslyum Stories at The British Library with Juliet Stevenson, and a series of events called Speaking of Writing at the University of Exeter, featuring women writers of colour. My book, Live Literature, is the first to explore the experience and cultural value of literary events, from salons to festivals.

Riverlandia: an immersive sound story installation

Riverlandia, my new immersive fictional sound story, is being launched as a sound installation at the British Library. Commissioned by the National Trust, and inspired by their work on the Holnicote Estate in Somerset, it tells the story of a changing river valley through the voices of its human and non-human inhabitants, including the river itself, a sheep, a dragonfly, a tree, a fish, a ranger, and a teenage girl who is struggling to fit in.

Showings can be booked through the British Library website, at various time slots between 7th and 11th July 2023.

Shalimar - book launch event

I’m happy to be hosting a conversation with Davina Quinlivan at The Bookbag Exeter to mark the launch of her new book, Shalimar, published by Little Toller Press in 2022. In the book, Davina explores her Burmese heritage, in ways that chime with my experience of living and working in Myanmar (Burma), which I wrote about in my first book, Saffron Shadows.

Immersive listening event

I’m thrilled to be co-curating an immersive listening event at Custom House on Exeter’s quayside where you can drop in to lie down and listen to my new literary soundwalk exploring Devon’s riverscapes created as part of my residency. It’ll be on the morning of Saturday 30th April. Keep an eye on Literature Works website for details.
